Jennifer Johnson, DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC, AFN-BC, AFN-C, SANE-A, SANE-P, DF-AFN, is a Doctor of Nursing Practice-prepared Advanced Practice Registered Nurse specializing in women’s health and forensic nursing. She holds national board certification as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and dual board credentials in forensic nursing, including certification as an Advanced Forensic Nurse and fellowship recognition for leadership and practice excellence within the Academy of Forensic Nursing.

Dr. Johnson’s career reflects more than two decades of clinical-forensic practice, expert legal consultation, systems-level program development, and multidisciplinary forensic education. Her work is grounded in scientific neutrality, evidence-based practice, and alignment with national frameworks for forensic nursing. She has led the direction and development of a forensic nursing program in the Midwest, delivering medical forensic examinations for patients impacted by interpersonal violence, clinical negligence, and complex injury mechanisms, including non-fatal strangulation and sexual assault. Her programmatic leadership has included the development of clinician training modules, policy-aligned workflows, and structured documentation systems designed to enhance forensic reliability and strengthen the foundations of expert testimony.

As the President and Owner of Johnson Legal Nurse Consulting, LLC, Dr. Johnson provides independent forensic case analysis and expert witness support for attorneys and clinical teams. Her litigation support services include injury interpretation, forensic documentation gap analysis, development of clinical-forensic timelines, and synthesis of expert opinions. She has delivered testimony support, deposition preparation, and courtroom proffer-structured opinion language in both state and federal courts in cases involving interpersonal violence, medical negligence, and negligent or wrongful death.

Dr. Johnson also contributes to national advancements in forensic nursing through education and policy-impact work with multidisciplinary partners. She has provided forensic nursing and injury-mechanism education to law enforcement professionals, attorneys, and clinicians on the importance of methodologically sound medical-forensic history-taking, the reliability of documentation, and the roles of forensic nurse examiners within the justice system. Her educational outreach has strengthened the multidisciplinary understanding of forensic nurse practice boundaries, evidence interpretation limits, and documentation standards that materially influence the reliability of testimony and courtroom admissibility.
Dr. Johnson contributes to national standards and policy-impact initiatives through professional appointments and governance work, serving in leadership roles that support forensic nursing infrastructure, documentation standards, and policy-aligned training design. She is also one of the Co-Founders of the Academy of Forensic Nursing.
